The Problem
It has been known for many years, in fact ever since Dr Alfred Cooper, a breast specialist back in the 19th century, discovered that after vigorous exercise, the ligaments that support the breast can be stretched to a point where it is unable to return to its natural state.
The effect that this has on the breast is one of great pain and unsightly drooping - not to mention inconvenience. Today's workout routines and exercise programs from energising yoga positions, gym workouts through to marathon running, tennis, cycling, horse riding and sports activities of every shade create potential irreversible damage for women as they exercise for health and well being.
The average bra will be ineffective in preventing damage caused to the breast tissue through high activity and high impact exercise.
Why?
Because ordinary bras and many setting themselves up as 'sports bras' are based on a suspension system. These bras allow for pockets to form, through the cross over of fabric darts and/or by construction cups that give the outward suspended projection of the breasts.
Aggrevated by high activity, the inadequacy of thin straps over the shoulders attached to the back straps are unable in mass to counter the force or bear the weight and movement at the front of the bra as women jump, jog or bounce during exercise. Worse, they ride up creating the opportunity for the inadequate pockets to become even more ineffective in resisting the up and down movement of the breasts.
If you add to that the rubbing and irritant factor of hardware by way of clasp, hooks and eyes etc. the irritation level moves into overload. Hardly conducive to a great workout experience.
Thus the problems caused by Cooper's ligament are arrested within the innovative and health promoting designs of the supportive bras .
Are they made to be fashionable as well as functional?
The best sports bras are an ideal balance between functionality and fashion.
Whatever your sports needs, be sure to find a Sports Bra that is an integral and essential part of your exercise, fitness, health and life.
