Comfortable, feel good and fashionably chic are qualities that great yoga clothing needs. Flexibility and functionality must come as pre-requisities.
Starting yoga or even if you have been doing it for some time, feeling comfortable in positions and executing postures is more than physical ease.
Sure some postures can be very demanding on a body that is fresh onto the scene but giving the body form the most unrestricted approach to postures ultimately enables the asanas to be executed in the best way, easing stiffness, balance and misalignment.
It is amazing the number of new students who turn up to their first class in inappropriate wear - even having been instructed otherwise!
It's so upsetting when this occurs from time to time that I tend to always carry a spare pair of tracksuit bottoms just in case a newbie arrives in jeans! - Honestly, have you done Garudasana in Levis? - ouch!
A far better solution than inappropriate dress in a yoga class is to get kitted out comfortably and easily in good yoga wear. Give the body all the help it needs. Yoga clothing needs to be comfortable clothing as well as totally functional.
Cotton is a great fabric to have next to the body. It allows the body to breathe and it feels great. Natural, organic cotton is very comfortable.
Organic clothing is usuallymade out of cotton or hemp, offering a wonderful eco solution for yoga clothes and general casual wear.
Like everything else in our yoga life, being able to have yoga clothes that are ethically sourced, environmentally friendly and healthy goes almost without saying. It just allows the talk to walk!
Tees Tops or cami vests?
The range of tops available offer wide choice. Whether it is a cami vest, tee shirt, wrap over top or racing back tank, if it feels good, allows for unrestricted movement then wear it! - fashion style is personal and can help in expressing the inner child - no really, fashion can be fun and needs to be - so much more than just fad.
Short sleeve, long sleeve or no sleeves is very much a decision that the individual can make for personal preference. The thing to avoid is tightness around the arms. Secure is great to stop the riding up but strangling the blood flow is a no-no. Let's leave the control of the blood flow to the bandhas (those yogic locks that help control the lifeflow).

To pant or not to pant, that is a question!
